MLM Recruiting-Narrowing Down Your Target Market
When you are trying to get more leads and prospects coming your way for your MLM or network marketing endeavor it’s important to market to the right people. When you narrow down your target market you will get much better results and not waste a lot of your valuable time.
So who really is the best target market for MLM or network marketing? There are numerous possible target markets you could regard as good depending on your product. However, putting the product aside for a moment, the best possible market is individuals who already recognize why they need a network marketing opportunity.
Too simple you say? Well it’s true and usually the best answers are the simple ones. Really, think about it. Would you rather market to people who don’t know why they need network marketing or individuals who already know why? The answer should be obvious as there’s a lot less work to do with people who already understand why they need MLM or network marketing. With these type of people you only need to market yourself.
However, who are the people who understand why they need this type of business?
There are three potential groups.
People who have already been in an MLM or network marketing company before.
Why you ask? Because they already understand… so 90% of the work is complete. Consider this; would one be more successful marketing to people in the Sahara or to people in the artic who purchased heating blankets before?
Of course it’s easier to market heating blankets to people who have purchased heating blankets before.
So now you get the idea of why people reached by cold calling leads or talking to family and strangers don’t see the need for a network marketing or MLM. Because they haven’t had any experience with it. No doubt you could learn to ask the right questions and try to assist people in discovering why they need this kind of business. However, that involves great skills in communication and persuasion and is a lot of work. It’s much better to learn good marketing that will bring the best prospects looking for you.
Prospects who are already researching your business.
This is a great target market to think about because they know some of the benefits of your business and are in research mode. They’re looking for the best team to join and they already recognize why they need a network marketing or MLM opportunity.
Finally there is a third group, business opportunity seekers.
They want to make money from home but they don’t know yet that they want to do it through our type of business. They aren’t as ideal as the other two groups. So, why am I mentioning them? Because this target market knows they need a way to make money and this relates to the same needs a MLM addresses. I’m not talking about cold calling. I’m talking about attracting pre-sold people to you.
You can be very successful focusing on just one or two of these groups. However, remember that nothing happens in reality until you apply it in the real world. And once you have narrowed down the correct target market you have to know what to do with them for the best results. Training on how to market yourself correctly and create interest with your target market is essential.

Hi Khai,
Great article on narrowing your target market. Without determining your target market before-hand, your internet activities are unfocused and you will also have a hard time generating leads. It’s like throwing spaghetti up on the wall and see what sticks. Except on the internet, if you are not targeted, nothing will stick as Google will simply just pass you by.
